CHILD OF THE STATE

Poet and broadcaster Lemn Sissay tracks down the men and women with whom he was in care, to organise a reunion. On the way, he asks searching questions of local authorities and central government on the dramatic failure of the care system.

Children in care spend their lives in transit, from one institution to another. They find it impossible to put down roots, their relationships can't last because they are forced to move on. At the reunion Lemn hopes to find out about who he was in those years, as there are no relatives, and no pictures to remind him.
