Twice as many women than men have received prison sentences for a first time offence. In 1998 302 girls were sentenced to imprisonment and the number of girls receiving prison sentences has increased by 38% since 1992.

In this programme we'll explore the factors behind these shocking statistics and travel to different parts of the U.K to gain an overview of the problem of young girls being violent towards each other and members of the public.

We'll also question whether the situation is really as bad as we are led to believe and explore the issue of media glamorisation of violence.
